On Saturday 1/5/08, the Elsmere Fire Co. assisted Station 17(Five Points) on a working
structure fire at 561 Homestead Rd. in Alban Park. Engine 165 and Ladder 16
responded. A total of eight firefighters were injured battling this fire which heavily
damaged the basement and the first and second floor apartments. Seven firefighters,
including four from Elsmere were treated and released from the Christiana Hospital.
One Elsmere firefighter refused treatment. Injuries sustained included first and second
degree burns and a fractured wrist. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the
State Fire Marshal's Office.
